SO YOU WANNA WATCH MOTORCITY

SO I HEAR YOU WANT TO WATCH MOTORCITY. Or maybe you don't, but I just keep yelling about it. Either way, now that you're here?? HOW DOES ONE WATCH MOTORCITY? Wait, what even IS Motorcity??

Well first of all you can watch the entire series streaming right here. Aside from one ep, Fearless, that's linked below.

Motorcity is about a group of friendly freedom fighters, The Burners!! Who try to take down the tyrant big bad, Abraham Kane (voiced by Mark Hamill THAT JUST TELLS YOU EVERYTHING). Kane went and built a City of the Future right on top of old Detroit, now dubbed Motorcity. Trying to set things right, or at least stop Kane from destroying what's left of Motorcity, Mike and the Burners engage in battleTM to protect both cities from baddies. And also race cars and play video games and junk.

"But Ash, I'm not all about mindless (though beautifully animated) action and blowing shit up! Will this REALLY appeal to me?" WHY YES, READ ON BELOW THE CUT.

Despite the first few episodes very much advertising the HIGH ADRENALINE action aspect of the show, Motorcity is extremely character driven! While it's fine enough to watch the episodes as they appear, some were shown out of order and make more sense as character arcs (villains showing up too early, other eps being pushed back, etc) But it's not that big of a deal.

BUT! Below I've linked each episode according to which character it focuses on + a summary. So hey, if there's a particular ep that stands out to you go for it! Like it? Try the rest of the series!

THE BURNERS

MIKE CHILTON
Hero of the series!! Mike is pretty straight forward and what you usually expect out of a shounen protagonist--impulsive, the leader guy, kinda crazy, NORMAL STUFF. BUT he also doubles as Team Mom and is somehow the nicest guy you will ever meet, he probably helps old ladies cross the street. Apparently is Dating Sim Material?? Most of Mike's eps center around him trying to be a good leader or dealing with his kinda sorta break up with his boss, the Big Bad of the series. Yeah i'm calling it a break up you wanna fight about it.

Battle for Motorcity - FIRST EPISODE. Establishes the story and setting, and Mike and Kane's constant jabs at each other.

Power Trip - Jumping at a chance to get one-up on Kane and rescue one of his lead scientists, Mike's impulsiveness starts to backfire. Literally! He almost blows up all of Michigan.

The Duke of Detroit - After a too close call, Mike's protectiveness goes into overdrive and he accidentally ends up ticking off A Very Important Person voiced by Dee Snyder. What you gonna do when your friends have bounties on their heads, Mike??

Vendetta - Nananana BACKSTORY. Mike's anniversary of the day he decided to switch sides, and he meets the most unreasonable/nonsensical rival ever.

The Duke of Detroit PRESENTS: - Mike gets TOO restless, a vat of toxic waste is present. You do the math!! The lesson here is don't let Mike get bored or everyone will suffer.

Julie
The actual star and most developed character of the series (DO NOT EVEN ARGUE WITH ME), Julie!! Julie is the Burners' intel and double agent--she works for the Big Bad and has access to secret files and whatnot. She has a super cute cat theme going on, aaaaand she's also the Big Bad's daughter. SURPRISE. Her father has no idea about her double life, and her episodes tend to focus around her trying to balance her priorities, and be there to help both the Burners and try to redeem her father. Her BFF is Claire, and the only person who knows all of Julie's secrets. They are the best girlfriends ever.

Off the Rack - Some of the Burners think they can't count on Julie (calling her Miss Deluxe and sort) and she goes out to prove them wrong. This backfires and hilarity ensues.

Julie and the Amazons - Someone's out to scapegoat the Burners, and a rival all-girl gang called the Amazons are the top suspect! Said gang is also getting super cozy with Claire, and Julie investigates.

Like Father Like Daughter- JULIE'S WHAM EPISODE. Julie convinces her Dad to leave work so they can have some bonding time (and so the Burner's can loot a train.) Things happen!! (Note: Watch after Vendetta if you want to know more about the villain that appears here)

Chuck
Mike's BFFL, Chuck rides shotgun with Mike and hates every second of it. He is terrified of everything. Even still, he pushes through because of his friends, and some of the things that terrify him fascinate him the most. Like cars! Chuck is also a super genius and might be part cyborg or some shit, we just don't know. He's the guy they hit up for on the go planning and hacking and formulas and other things smart people do. Despite his brains, Chucks suffers from a heck of a lot of self doubt and anxiety, and it's touched on a good bit.

Blond Thunder - After getting dragged into a high-stakes race, Chuck confesses a secret: he doesn't know how to freaking drive. Mike and Chuck try to figure this out without letting the others know.

Fearless - After watching a video feed of himself screaming for dear life, Chuck is fed up with being a scaredy cat. He stumbles across a KaneCo "booster" chip, that supposedly increases strength, stamina, and eliminates fear. Antics ensue. DON'T DO DRUGS, KIDS. One of my favorite eps 8U All Chuck eps are fab tho.

Ride of the Fantasy Vans - What does Chuck do on the weekends? He is an adorkable LARPer, that's what. When his LARPing crew is in trouble, the Burners come to help, and Chuck starts to lament on how he doesn't seem cool or useful no matter who he's hanging out with. THIS IS A REALLY FREAKING CUTE EPISODE.

DUTCH
ARGUABLY THE BEST AND MOST COMPETENT CHARACTER, Dutch is often overlooked, possibly because he's got the most common sense in the crew. Dutch is probably one of the best introverts I've ever seen on TV?? He loves his friends, and loves hanging out, but sometimes he just wants to have time do his own things, and tries very hard not to draw too much attention to himself. He also has the most adorable girlfriend. Oh, and also a cute robot mascot sidekick.

Going Dutch - Being a Burner is taking up a lot of Dutch's time, and he finally breaks away to have a well needed art jam session alone. Unfortunately, while he's gone, a ~mysterious~ virus infects the rest of the Burners.

Reunion - After a plan goes wrong and the Burners get trapped up in Deluxe, Dutch takes the opportunity to go visit his family, and finds out his brother is not in the best place career-wise.

Mayhem Night - A fun Halloween episode that shows a few of Burners' greatest fears. NOT DUTCH THO. This is a more general Burners' episode, but the subplot follows Dutch's attempts to get closer with Tennie and her father.

TEXAS
TEXAS IS....TEXAS....he's awesome. He even gets his own theme song, crazy right, I know?? The tiny musclehead of the group, Texas loves attention and sees himself as second in command, even if he really isn't. As bull headed as he is, he's always got the others' backs and comes through to the rescue a good bit! Has a hard time telling girls apart. Maybe he can only see muscles?? Like instead of heat eyes he has muscle vision, I don't even know.
Texas-ify It! - Wanting desperately for his (highly debatable) genius ideas to be recognized, Texas jumps at the chance to help a new group of characters, The Terras, lead a charge to take down Kane. Not knowing the full extent of their plans, Texas gets into a liiiittle bit of a bind.

The Robo Round-Up - Texas was actually born in Motorcity, so has some past dealings with other gangs! An old rival calls him out to participate in a robo style round up, poking fun of his past losses. To show them up, he steals and loses Dutch's robot assistant in match. The Burners are none too happy about it.

Threat Level: Texas - The greatest recap episode you will ever watch. Ever. Do not watch this til you've watched everything else I'm serious.

GROUP/???? EPS I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CATEGORIZE THESE??
Ride The Lightning - An earlier episode, what happens when Mike gets lost and the Burners have to lead themselves? WACKINESS.

FINALE PART ONE - VEGA

FINALE PART TWO - A BETTER TOMORROW

I'M NOT EVEN GONNA SUMMARIZE THESE TWO THEY'RE JUST THAT FREAKING GOOD. It is really nice to see how far along the group's come from Ride the Lightning to A Better Tomorrow, tho.

These are all streaming links, but if you dig it, go pick it up on Itunes! Because that's literally the only place to buy it, sob. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!1!
