CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Mike Chilton
Age: 17/18, looks older.
Canon: Motorcity
Canon Point: Post Finale
Character Information: Wiki link! But here's a little more detail.

Motorcity takes place in a distant dystopian future in NeoTokyo Detroit, Michigan, where everything outside of Detroit is supposedly a ruined wasteland. . .or that's what Abraham Kane says. He's built a clean, automated, safe, vast utopian city haven dubbed "Detroit Deluxe," and wants to keep everyone there in a neat, obedient, bubble. Many of the citizens there have become content with this way of life, and view Kane as their guardian and hero.

It doesn't sound too bad until you realize he has also stripped away all of the citizens' individuality, criminalizes creative/artistic expression, and oh, literally built this city on the top of the ruins of old Detroit, now dubbed "Motorcity" by the inhabitants there. Motorcity is riddled with poverty and ageing relics of the Detroit of old, but the citizens there call it home, and others seek it out as a place of refuge from Kane's oppressive city.

Enter Mike Chilton!

Mike grew up as an orphan in Deluxe, and eventually fell in with Kane's military-like squadron, and climbed the ranks until he received the title of Commander. Back then, Mike and Kane had an almost father and son like relationship, and Mike looked up to and served him dutifully. . .until he realized Kane was evil and trying to utterly destroy the citizens of Motorcity, then Mike rebelled, and fled to Motorcity to begin life anew, swearing to protect the citizens he once helped oppress.

There Mike learned to drive (cars being Kane's most hated form of 'freedom'), and formed a Robin Hoodesque car gang--the Burners! Chuck, Julie, Dutch, Texas, and an old friend Jacob, Mike is the one who brought them all together. Together he leads the Burners in battles against Kane in a constant struggle to protect the remains of Motorcity and its people, and expose Kane's true self. He's got other problems, too--Motorcity is home to several rival car gangs, many that have beefs against the Burners for whatever reason, or just plain like egging them on or trying to sell them out for cash. Then there are the mutant eco-terrorist Terra Dwellers who pose a threat to both Deluxians and Motorcitizens. He also has to have time to sneak in refugees from Deluxe, too. Mike's got his hands full! He'll never tire of the fight, though in truth all Mike wants is for Motorcity to be left alone so he can chill with his friends, eat pizza, and maybe drive around and blow some shit up because he is a ridiculous teenager.

Personality:
Mike Chilton has the appearance of a scruffy, lanky hoodlum, usually hunched over and hands pocketed. At first glance he looks like someone you want to avoid, but looks are very deceiving! He is actually one of the most caring, supportive dudes you'll ever meet, and surprisingly fills the role of both Leader and Team Mom for the Burners. You'll never see him outright shooting down anyone's ideas, and actively encourages his friends to pursue personal interests while simultaneously keeping his fight with Kane as the number 1 priority. He's quick to catch on when something is bothering people, and eager to find a way to correct it. Oh no, are you sad?? Mike is gonna get you something to make you unsad!! Oh no, your car is broken?? Looks like Mike has wandered off to fight a horde of mutant sewer rats to get his friend that rare car part they need!! Etc Etc. Mike is also not shy about stepping down to let others lead the way at times--he's very aware of what his team's strengths and weaknesses are, and will urge them to take the metaphorical (and sometimes actual) wheel so the job can get done better and faster. For a couple examples, when he notices that he's in a rut, Mike encourages Dutch to take some time away from the Burners to work on his personal art--the reason Dutch had ran away to Motorcity. And in another case, when he learns that his BFF, Chuck, is a LARPer and that his gaming crew looks up to him, Mike willingly takes a backseat to let Chuck lead the Burners, impress the other LARPers, and boost his confidence.

Mike is generally a friendly guy and affectionate toward his teammates--it's not uncommon for him to drape over, lean on, or generally be in others' space! But as stated, he takes the time to get a feel of the situation, and will keep his distance if others are uncomfortable (for example, he's more likely to be physically affectionate with Chuck and Texas, since they are used to him and are likewise touchy, but will rarely get all up in Dutch's space--he likes him just as much, but notes that Dutch is more introverted/wary of his boundaries). The same goes when meeting a new person! When the Duke of Detroit is introduced, Mike is immediately more on guard, standing straighter and watchful, as the Duke's crew surround them. Depending on the mood, Mike can snap from chill and welcoming to guarded and attack ready in a heart beat.

He can also be ridiculously patient. Some of the characters in Motorcity are extremely loud, obnoxious, or just plain out there, and Mike generally takes them all on in the same fashion--part of this is because sometimes he's just plain DONE with their antics and rather roll with them to get it over with (such as with frenemy, the Duke), and other times he legitimately just thinks they're adorable/hilarious and knows how to approach them the right way, such as with his boisterous teammate, Texas. Rather than saying, for example, "No Texas you can't do a roundhouse spinkick for no good reason," Mike would think on it, and be like "No, you can't do that, buuuut you can let loose and spin kick these bad guys and then use your car to whirl a weapon around as if you were kicking and also narrate it as you do so 8)!" Mike's patience comes from his self awareness that he too, is a stupid teenager, and his general 'what you see is what you get' honesty. He's very straight-forward and can sometimes be stupidly blunt, but it's rarely in a mean-spirited way.

Speaking of stupid teenagers, Mike is indeed at heart, a dumb teenaged boy. He gets into a lot of scrappy fights, and is a little more than delighted to be in midst of a dangerous one, eagerly enjoying a challenge. He's an oxymoron of a careful adrenaline junkie--he'd never do anything that would knowingly risk harming innocent people or his friends, but he would get into a game of race-chicken with robotic dogs or a dude trying to kill him because my gosh that's a good time. He's incredibly impulsive, which simultaneously works for him and makes his teammates worry at times.

Being a Burner, Mike is has a decent knowledge of cars! His strengths are more on the driving side/doing ridiculous things with them, than building them, however, but he tries to help out (though he's usually the reason they have to rebuild them in the first place). He has no qualms about getting his hands dirty or oily, and probably smells like car exhaust most of the time. He can get a bit fidgety when he doesn't have something to do--once they went a good three weeks without being attacked, and Mike cleaned their entire secret base over and over again, was prone to pacing and insomnia, and would whip out his weapon and be attack ready just at the sound of utensils falling at a restaurant. He likes to keep himself busy to avoid this (though keeping busy more often than not means finding robots to destroy or driving at well beyond the speed limit).

To counter his friendly side, Mike is straight up competent when things get serious! He takes no chances when his people are at risk, and can and will do whatever means are necessary to protect them and Motorcity. Despite looking relaxed, he has his guard up a good bit of the time! Depending on the situation, he'll either immediately take on the threat then and there, or call for a tactical retreat if it means less of a chance of his crew being harmed. Threatening his people is the one thing he doesn't stand for, at one time he straight up runs over a rival gang for chasing them (it's Disney tho, they were just fine haha), and electrocutes another dude as a means to escape. He's also quick to snap his teammates back into place if they get too far out of line, dropping his usual chill tone and being short and blunt with them. Also, while Mike has a good heart and is your standard Good Guy Protag, he knows the things they do might have to blur the morally gray lines sometimes, and takes full responsibility when it comes to it.

Also, thanks to his dealings with more creative baddies, he's developed a good baseline dislike and mistrust for hallucinations, weird plants, and 'deal makers', dirty tactics of the Terra Dwellers and the Duke, respectively. But he's Mike so he'd likely try to give folks related to those a chance, if only to realize maybe he should trust his instincts and stop doing that. He's been screwed over quite a few times by giving his enemies the benefit of a doubt. As careful as he is, Mike will always offer his hand in a truce (believing that more allies are better than a crapton of enemies), so while he will have is guard up in these scenarios, he'd rather judge a person on an individual basis.

Lastly to note, while it isn't exactly a source of standard shounen AAAANGST, Mike does tend to keep the past in the back of his head! He regrets not realizing he was working for the bad guy while he served as a cadet and commander (he may have helped ruin some lives, oops!) and has a bit of a vague fear of Kane capturing him and being dragged back into that life, and rarely talks about his issues in depth. He even still keeps his old KaneCo uniform neatly tucked away in his room, and it's worth noting that he and Kane both feel like they were betrayed by one another. But thanks to his teammates' urging, this serves mostly as a springboard for him to keep his forward momentum and not get stuck in a pit of regret--never forget the past, but learn from it and try to do as much good as he can now.

To sum it up, Mike is a well-meaning leader team mom rebel that wants to go fast with his team.

Roleplay Sample:

So waking up disoriented and scuffed up wasn't exactly new to Mike--if anything that was one of the only familiar things about his current situation! Still, he couldn't help but shake the feeling that Kane's standard killer robots weren't responsible for landing him in the hospital, and even stranger, where did a hospital even come from? He definitely wasn't in Kansas--er, Detroit--any more, but rather than alarm the doctors or nurses even further, he obediently let them finish their exams. He knew he already looked like a hot mess, and from some of the side glances he was getting, he could tell they weren't exactly pleased to have random dudes washing up on their shores.

Once they deemed him well enough to leave, Mike gave them a quick "Thanks, Docs," and a two fingered salute, and quickly set off. Strange city or no, the one thing he did remember is that he was looking for a teammate that disappeared. And knowing that big guy, he probably would have headed for food. "Now if I were a loud, hungry guy, where would I go. . .Bingo!" He snapped his fingers, spotting a quaint, rustic looking cafe not far from the hospital. If his teammate had started off there, surely this would have been his next stop.

He eagerly approached the shop, a young woman sweeping the welcome mat, but stopped in his tracks when she looked up, eyes wide in alarm. Mike took a moment, slinking back a bit, pocketing a hand, and raising the other in a light wave. "Yo, Miss. Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you've seen any weird guys around? Uh, not counting myself."

When his answer was the woman furiously shaking her head, and then retreating into the cafe and slamming the door, he stood there a moment, scratching at the back of his head. "Well, that's a starting point, at least. Kind of."
