I am ridiculously happy that Kid being an exaggeration of Kaito's worst qualities got picked up on. ;u; Apollo please let yourself trust more, gosh.
MY TURN TO TL;DR--
Kaito at first considered Apollo to be "yet another lawful acquaintance" that he just can't seem to get away from. I mean come on: first a police inspector's daughter, then an actual detective, now a lawyer?? He just needs to befriend a judge and he'll have the whole set. But he doesn't let occupation get in the way of judging people and, based on first impressions, he thought Apollo was an interesting guy: passionate like him and willing to do whatever in order to stay on top of things. Plus it's a given he'd be a good guy, being an attorney, right? That all gets reinforced with the few times they meet during Kaito's transformations. Apollo comes off as a dependable sort. A bit stiff when it comes to having fun, but that's nothing he can't cure, he thinks.
Revealing Kid isn't something he ever planned to have happen for...obvious reasons. I think Apollo may have had the dubious honour of being close second to discovering Kaito = Kid (Rio claiming first spot on Christmas Day). When that secret came out, Kaito was terrified about what Apollo would think of him and it was compounded with the sudden new reality that Kid existed. Not only was he not who he said he was but now he was also (apparently) insane! Except Apollo drove right through his panicking, gave him the verbal equivalent of a wake-up slap, and took the news a lot better than Kaito thought he would.
Coming clean with the whole story later was actually rather therapeutic. It means a lot to him that Apollo didn't immediately jump on him and berate him about the illegality of what he's been doing. He listened and tried to understand, while reminding him about certain lines that no-one should ever cross.
So now Apollo is firmly on the tier of 'trusted friend', and believe me, there's not many people who can get there. He sees Apollo as something of a grounding force: someone to turn to if things start getting out of hand. Apollo is also the main reason Kaito feels more confident in confessing his identity to his childhood friend if she ever appears here or he goes back home.
...And now, Kid.
Kid, by comparison, is utterly cynical of just about everything and everyone he meets. Their first, real meeting could have taken place in much better circumstances but that's Ryslig for you. He considers Apollo an acquaintance at best, a possible obstacle at worst. The guy had the misfortune to be present at a very bad time and Kid also wasn't happy that their next interaction continued in the vein of revealing his/Kaito's secret. Which means Kid's early experiences painted Apollo in a nosy, interfering sort of light. Apollo likes to ferret out the truth, but Kid's entire persona is built on keeping the truth hidden so it's natural that he's wary around a lawyer.
However, Kaito IS the dominant personality. Kid has to trust that Kaito knows whom he's placing his trust in, even if he doesn't like it. Apollo's decision to leave himself completely open to attack that one time despite Kid's threats makes Kid think the guy is...a little bit of an idiot. No, make that a lot. Ironically he sees a lot of Kaito in Apollo, particularly when it comes to that earnest sort of way he wears his emotions sometimes. Frustrating though it is, he can't hate him entirely.
While Kid's final assessment of Apollo is still pending the conclusion of their little magic training session, he's slowly coming around to the idea that Apollo is trustworthy and that he really does only have Kaito's best interests in mind. If nothing else, the assurance that Apollo just seems to want honesty from the people he deals with is going some way to helping him determine a comfortable middle-ground.
And as for Mike, Kaito's impression is that he's a chill guy. The biker image kind of colours his perception a bit right now. Kid thinks he's an amusing distraction and is keeping an eye on him in case he tries to interfere with things again like the last time they met.
